SUMMER '22 MENTOR SELECTIONS

Updated: Jun 24

The time has finally come to announce our new Summer '22 Rogues! We are so grateful to all of the writers who applied to work with our mentors, and we hope you'll consider sticking around for all of the exciting things we have coming up in Fall 22 and Spring 23!

This round...

We received 290 submissions from writers around the world.

  • 97 Adult

  • 29 Crossover

  • 114 YA

  • 27 MG

Of those 290 submissions, 45 Rogue writers received a full request, and of those 45, 2 (TWO!!) were requested by more than one mentor.

That’s a 15.5% chance of getting a full request.

.69% chance of having more than one mentor ask for your pages.

Of the entire pool of 290 submissions, 18 manuscripts were selected. That means the chance of being selected by a mentor was around 6.2%.

While we'd love to have some fact, like, you're more likely to win the lottery (false), or get struck by lightning (also false), or marry Harry Styles (probably falsest), Nat spent an hour researching and came up with zilch (except really depressing facts about the state of US healthcare.)

Regardless, it’s SO important to note:

A pass on any given MS is rarely an indication/result of a lack of quality, whether that be of the submission package or the writing itself. Sometimes it is, yes, BUT…

Sometimes...

- Mentor skill or timeline isn't a match

- It’s too similar to their own project "Though I absolutely LOVE this story and the voice - unfortunately I realized that a few subplots are too similar to one of my WIPs :((((((" -actual quote from our submission notes

- It’s not what they're looking for right now

- AND ON AND ON

SO, if your name isn’t on this list, please know, many of you made this an incredibly tough decision for our mentors. Many of you put your best foot forward, with strong submissions and thoughtful answers to our questions, and you deserve to be proud of yourself!

No matter what, keep writing, keep putting yourself out there, and stay in touch with us on social media and through our newsletter. We have resources for every writer in the community, not just the ones who get selected by a mentor.

Now, since I (Nat) doubt anyone has read this far (🧐), let's get into the announcements. Last thing before we do--some mentors selected additional mentees to offer "Group Support" to--these are apart from primary mentees and offerings vary from what was listed on their profiles.
