The time has finally come to announce our new Spring '22 Rogues! We are so grateful to all of the writers who applied to work with our mentors, and we hope you'll consider sticking around for all of the exciting things we have coming up--including another chance to apply May 27th-30th!
We received 273 submissions from writers around the world.
Of those 273 submissions, 79 Rogue writers received a full request, and of those 79, 14 were requested by more than one mentor.
That’s a 22.4% chance of getting a full request.
4.8% chance of having more than one mentor ask for your pages.
Of the entire pool of 273 submissions, 18 manuscripts were selected. That means the chance of being selected by a mentor in this round were 6.18% (Nat did the math on this so if it’s wrong, she’s not surprised.)
We don’t have the data to calculate the probability of this next one, but it’s important to note:
A pass on any given MS is rarely an indication/result of a lack of quality, whether that be of the submission package or the writing itself. Sometimes it is, yes, BUT…
- Mentor skill or timeline isn't a match
- They can only choose so many mss because Nat is mean
- It’s too similar to their own project
- It’s not what they're looking for right now
- AND ON AND ON
SO, if your name isn’t on this list, please know, many of you made this an incredibly tough decision for our mentors. Many of you put your best foot forward, with strong submissions and thoughtful answers to our questions, and you deserve to be proud of yourself!
Several mentors made a note of submissions they thought might be a good fit for a May mentor—Think: “It wasn’t a fit for me, but Daphne might love it because xyz!” Some of the writers on this list didn’t receive a full request but made an impression.
But keep in mind, if your name isn’t on this list, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t reapply! We don’t always know what might pique another mentor’s interest, and we don’t know each other’s wish lists by heart.
Some mentors also nominated writers for a mini mentor scholarship. This four-week masterclass will provide writers with tips and tools to look at not only their book, but their writing career like a mentor would.
No matter what, keep writing, keep putting yourself out there, and stay in touch with us on social media and through our newsletter. We have resources for every writer in the community, not just the ones who get selected by a mentor.
